Greetings to Newington Families.
As we settle into our fall activities, we reflect over a very active summer here at the library. We are gaining new patrons that are enjoying our library. I have especially enjoyed getting to know the 5th and 6th graders. They are a terrific group of kids and have contributed new life to the Langdon Library. Thank you for sharing them with me.
One of the projects the kids helped me complete was to empty the basement of books. Unfortunately, many books were damaged by the dampness. However, the few historical books that were found were rescued and added to our historical collection in the attic. We hope to start cataloging these books in the next year or so. Help me by giving a special thanks to all the volunteers who helped empty the basement and get ready for the library book sale. They are: Randall Bush, Jamie Marks (my husband!), Collin Stern and his family, Glenn Trefethen, Kartinah Smith, Jessica DeVincenzo, Veronica Noble, Anne Harrington, and Lucy, Seth, & Louise Daigle who gathered this group together. Louise has completed over 100 hours of service and is my "right hand man!"
You may have noticed new library signs swinging in the wind in front of the fire station and by the basketball court in South Newington. Watch for new library hours to be posted along with current library information. Please tell Suzie Carmichael thanks for tending to the sign in South Newington.
The Library Trustees are currently seeking anyone interested in being a library substitute. There will be paid training. If you are interested, please contact Becky Marks at the library (436-5154).
