The Newington Neighbor is Working to Keep the Old Stone School Open

We need your help. We don't want to see the Old Stone School abandoned. We have been using it to create the NN for about 20 years.

In 2002, the total amount spent on the building was $839, which was for heat only. Since the Town took ownership of the school 21/2 years ago, nothing has been spent to repair or maintain it.

The selectmen have put NO money into their 2003 budget to make necessary repairs in the building. They have turned off the heat and locked out the people. To enter the building you now need a special appointment and an escort.

With no funds in this year's budget for repairs, the building will remain closed in 2003 and well into 2004 or longer.

For the short-term, we need to add money to the 2003 budget for repairs that will allow the building to be occupied by 10 — 12 adults (see warrant article 10).
